chaplain Phil DuFrene,
The goal of our ministry is to build relationships with seafarers.
Those relationships lead to conversations about life, work, values and faith.
Sometimes talking about faith leads to an opportunity to share the salvation message of Jesus Christ.
And on every visit we bring a jar of jelly beans, free socks and free Wi-Fi. We create and produce our literature in several languages.
That's what chaplaincy is all about...meeting seafarers where they are in life and walking alongside them for a few steps while they are in port.
After they leave we maintain contact with many seafarers online through Facebook and WhatsApp. Imagine what it means to a seafarer in a distant port to get a greeting and chat from a friend from North America.
Port of Hope USA serves seafarers arriving in Anacortes and Bellingham, Washington.
Yup. It is interesting being a small ministry. But it is rewarding.
...building strong Christian seafarers.
